How do you maintain your own emotional well-being and continue growing as a therapist?
I picked this field for many reasons, one of which being how incredibly challenging it is and how much it keeps me on my toes. That said, there are days where I can feel fatigue creeping in, and those are the days I know I need to deliberately make time for what recharges me. Those activities include video games (including more mindless options like World of Warcraft, but also some incredibly engaging ones like Baldur's Gate 3); cooking and baking (I love playing around with savory, citrusy, and bold flavors); getting outside (literally just soaking in some sunshine); and hanging out with my incredible pets (ask me for photos of them anytime). Along with being intentional about refilling my energy reserves, I also really love connecting with colleagues all across not just psychology but other professions including social work, psychiatry, and holistic medicine. I have always considered myself a life-long student who has intentionally committed to life-long learning - even if sometimes that just means spending an hour digging into facts about platypus biology.
