How do you maintain your own emotional well-being and continue growing as a therapist?

I learned that the most important tools for my self-care are sleep, hydration, movement, and connection. I prioritize getting at least 8 hours of sleep every night and drinking 64 ounces of liquid in the morning. My morning routine of yoga and meditation also help me cultivate emotional stability for this work. I practice what I preach and see my own therapist weekly to work on uncovering my own unconscious patterns. I have completed multiple trainings, including specific psychotherapy approaches and yoga teacher trainings, to build my repertoire of skills to use with clients in therapy and to support my own development as a therapist. Lastly, I do activities that enliven me: I dance, I sing, I commune with nature and connect with my friends. To me, growing as a therapist is growing as a human. It’s about humbly embracing the complexities, feeling all the feelings, and trusting that each challenge is medicine for the soul.
